Rebecca Ruvalcaba
What is the most memorable moment of your life right now? It'd probably have to be Karaoke at Zoe's when Bri started singing in the funniest accent I have ever heard in my life!
Do you have any favorite teachers on campus? I have a TON of favorite teachers! Well, yeah they're all my favorite. Ms. Bush is just amazing and a really easy person to talk to, Mr. Yoshida has the FUNNIEST stories, and Mrs. Cardoza (aka Simon Caldoza) is hilarious! She calls me Rebecca the Weasel, and says that I walk like a weasel too. And of course there's Mother Kim, who is very very motherly and is technically my second Mom!
What is your best childhood memory? Well, I can recall the time that I won a comic book contest in the fifth grade. When my name was announced, I fainted because I didn't think I'd win. I also didn't think I'd win a 300$ set of professional drawing markers!
Who is your favorite band/ singer/ artist? What is your favorite song by them? My favorite artist at the moment is the band "Boys Like Girls." My favorite song by them is "The Great Escape".
What is your favorite TV Show or book? My favorite book of all time is The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. It's a wonderfully written masterpiece; the imagery is breathtaking and the story just grows hands and sympathizes with your emotions as you're reading. Recommended read!
Do you use any acronyms too much? I definitely use "omg" and "LOL" as well as "ROFL", especially with certain little sophomores...and one freshman.
If you could have any type of animal as a pet, which would it be? Well, there's two: a weasel and an otter. Weasels have funny names, so that's cool, and otters are just ADORABLE. Plus, they like to swim, like me!
What was the last embarrassing moment you've had? Oh goodness where do I begin....well it all started on a Friday afternoon in a class known as Pre-Cal. I went after school for a lecture that I missed with my friend Priscilla Tran (Wee Wee), and there was another girl there named Okairy. Mr. Yoshida and Priscilla said something REALLY funny, so I went outside to let my laughter out. As I whirled around the building, I climbed back up the stairs- only slip on a wet pen and run into the door. It was Okairy's pen.
What would you do with $1 billion? For starters, I'd buy a house big enough for my mom and I, and of course a loft sometime later in life. After that I'd probably buy my Mom and Dad a new car, put some of it away for later, invest some of it, and pay for my brother and sister's college tuition. Oh, and of course, I'd build a state of the art studio for the video team, new computers for the school equipped with the latest Adobe Creative Suite, wire the school's televisions, buy new Elmo projectors, give the Aquatic boosters a juicy donation, and of course pay back Mr. Kim all of that food debt I owe him!
What is your hobby or favorite extracurricular? My favorite extracurricular activity would have to be Mediatech. I probably live in room B-1 by now since I eat all of the food and go to the after school sessions when I can. Mother Kim's rigorous critique and dictator ways have really shaped what Mediatech is-- a sweatshop!
What do you like most about being an Argo? The thing I like most about being an Argo would be that I could say I'm an Argo. There are so many things that contribute to being a great school, and an Argo is all of those in one. I love the school spirit, our success in sports, and most of all our Argo Community.
What is the craziest thing you've done? The craziest thing I've ever done...well I'm not extremely crazy, but one time Yearbook and I were working late and Mi Mai forgot her textbook inside her locker. The school was locked, so we had to find a way to try to get in- I resorted to trying to crawl underneath the red bars by the cafeteria. It didn't work.
If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be? If I could be anyone for a day, I'd like to be Mr. Kim so I can feel what he feels when we torture him (his name is actually Mother Kim).
What two things can you not live without? Two things I cannot live without would probably be my cell phone and my blankie. And yes, it's a blankie. My cell phone is an iPhone, so without it, I'd get lost going to places, and I wouldn't be able to call anyone! My blankie is just full of pink-green-blue striped amazingness that keeps me warm when I'm cold and makes me happy when I'm sad!
What is your favorite part of your family's culture? My favorite part of my family's culture is and always has been the apple of my eye- the food. Mexican food is just THE BOMB. Tamales, fish tacos, enchiladas- it's all just tempting.
What college do you wish to go to? I really, really, really, really, REALLY, REALLY want to go to Chapman University. My mom went there for her Bachelor's and her Master's degree, and every time I went with her, I simply fell in love with the campus over and over. I did apply to their Dodge College of Film and Media Arts recently- I hope I get in!
What is your greatest talent? Falling! Just kidding. I think my talent is being able to eat eight baskets of Red Robin Garlic French Fries without puking- or it could be that I can play piano and edit videos, too.
Who has inspired you to become the person you are today? Well there's really no one person, but if I had to pick one person, I'd say my mom. She's stood behind me every step of the way- literally.
