Attention All Parents! The Parent Portal is Almost Here!

Parent Portal is coming soon!  GGUSD has a new student information system that is web-based, and parents will soon have online access to valuable information about their own child's progress.  Parent Portal gives parents the ability to use a log-on that is specific to their child to access up-to-the-minute, "real time" information on attendance, grade/assignment details, transcript and graduation status.  Parents can log-on at 10:00 AM and see that their son was tardy to first period that day, and didn't turn in his homework in Algebra the day before.  Parents can monitor transcripts for progress toward meeting the A-G requirements for college admission, or can quickly see if their child is on track to graduate.  Having access to view the teacher grade books will be a powerful tool for parents to use to support academic progress and hold their kids accountable for homework completion and studying for tests and quizzes.

Parent meetings to receive your personalized access code for Parent Portal will be held December 2nd.  We are holding three meetings to allow for parent work schedules:  7:15 AM in the Library, or 6:30 and 7:30 PM in the Cafeteria--all on Dec. 2nd.  Each meeting will last less than 30 minutes.  We'll give you the access code, then show you how to navigate the website.  The Parent Portal goes live on December 1st, so parents can leave the meeting and immediately access the website when they get home.  If a parent cannot attend one of the three meetings on December 2nd, they'll need to come in person to the Main Office between 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM to pick up the personalized letter.  We will not mail these access codes to prevent the possibility of a student intercepting the mail.  Please note: 2nd quarter Progress Reports, and all subsequent grade reports will not be mailed, since parents will have daily access to grade details through Parent Portal.

GGHS is very excited to offer this program.  We are one of only 5 schools in the district chosen to pilot the Parent Portal.  Please join us on December 2nd and plug into the power of information!

Halloween Costume Guidelines

We are NOT having a costume contest this year at lunch, but a student may still don a costume as long as it follows all of our school dress policies. Here is what they want to avoid:

1. Their entire head area must be visible. This means no masks, hoods, hats, or caps. Face painting is discouraged, but not prohibited unless it is not in good taste.

2. No plastic swords, knives, or any other type of  toy weapon is allowed on campus at anytime.

3. Their costume must cover all appropriate parts of their body. No lady godiva outfits or short skirts are allowed.

4. The costume must be in good taste and not offensive to others.

Seniors: Last Chance for Yearbook Photos

To all seniors:
The auditorium will be occupied for test scheduling so Senior Portraits can no longer be taken there.  However, there is plenty of availability at Lifetouch's Garden Grove Studio on the 12th, 13th, and 14th during the evening of October.  The studio will be closed after the 14th.
Students can call 1-800-682-7600 or visit www.prestigeportraits.com to schedule an appointment.
We are currently listed under the Riverside, California location but students may choose the Temporary Garden Grove Studio at: Hoover Business Park, 12692 Hoover Street, Garden Grove CA 92841

Back to School Night

Back to School Night will be held Wednesday, October 28 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the Gym.

ASB Takes 1st @ Camp

For the first time in the 49 year history of ASB camp, a Garden Grove HS team won the show! If you have four free minutes, and would like to view their performance, click on the below link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCWE7yzgHhM&feature=channel_page

Keep in mind that all the dances, props, costumes, and script was created by the ASB students you see in the show. They began the process the Monday school got out and what you see is their finished product. They spent countless hours everyday working on it.
