Reopening Information Update

April 12, 2021

Good morning Argos community,

We have completed two weeks of in-person instruction now, one where students attended only 2 days and one where they attended 4 days. We are definitely continuing in the 4-day model and we know that by following recent California Department of Public Health guidelines along with our current safety protocols, we'll continue to be able to conduct our school day safely.

If your child is currently on distance learning and would like to return to campus for in-person instruction, please do not hesitate to reach out to his/her counselor as there may be a possibility to get you in. If your student has not been back on campus this school year, we encourage you to consider sending him/her back now to experience classroom learning for the remainder of the school year. This will likely lead to an easier and more successful transition to in-person learning in the fall. Since reopening, our students have benefited tremendously from face to face instruction from their teachers and from the social interactions that make our school special.

As we plan for the 2021-2022 school year, we will continue to follow guidance from the CDPH and OCHCA and modify our protocols based on the most current guidance. Our goal for the remainder of this school year is to provide all students with additional in-person opportunities for academic support, intervention, enrichment and fun school activities. We look forward to returning to a full five-day schedule in the fall.

Also consider that GGHS will not be offering site-based distance learning in the Fall. Families who prefer a distance learning option in the Fall can apply for our district’s Virtual Learning Academy. Information regarding open enrollment for the Virtual Learning Academy will be shared in the weeks ahead.

Have a great day.

Sincerely,

Good morning Argos community,

I am extremely excited to inform you that Garden Grove High School
will be providing more in-person instruction to our students! Beginning Tuesday, April 6th, we will combine our two cohorts of students attending in-person instruction into one larger cohort and all in-person students will attend schools 4 days per week from 8 a.m. –12:30 p.m.

We are able to do this safely for several reasons:

1. Our two
existing cohorts are fairly small so when we combine them, our class sizes still fit safely in a classroom.
2. The CDC and California Dept of Public Health issued school guidance on March 20
recommending physical spacing between student desks at 3 feet instead of 6 feet. While we won't even need to bring desks this close, it does give us an opportunity to increase class size to fit both cohorts together.
3. The vast majority of our parents and students who are attending in-person are in favor of more days of attendance.

Monday, April 5, will be our typical online learning day and then beginning on Tuesday, April 6, all in-person students (Cohort A and Cohort B) will attend school from 8:00-12:30, Tuesday-Friday. There is no change in class periods or class times. In-person students will notice that they are still labeled as either Cohort A or Cohort B but that will make no difference anymore as they both will attend at the same time.

This comes on the heels of the great news you received Wednesday from the district that next year all GGUSD schools will return to 5 full days of in-person instruction. We are so happy to hear that’s the expectation in the fall, and moving our in-person attendance to 4 days
per week after we return from break will definitely help to make that transition as smooth as possible.

If this increase of in-person instruction interests you in making a switch in your attendance, please reply to me or call the office at 663-6115.

Have a great spring break everyone and we can't wait to see you all after break!

Sincerely,

Todd Nirk

Good morning Argos community,

By now you've all made your choice on how you will attend GGHS for the remainder of the year, either through distance learning (Cohort D) or in-person (Cohort A or Cohort B). You can now see your cohort in Aeries but please keep in mind that even though the schedule is set, we may need to make some final adjustments so that our classes are as balanced as possible and can accommodate all students. I recommend you double-check your cohort over the weekend. We won't change anyone into or out of Cohort D of course, but there could be some Cohort A/B adjustments.

For those of you attending in-person, there is a daily screening process to complete prior to coming to school. It is a very quick and easy process through Parent Square and you can find more details
HEREAlso as a reminder, please remember to bring your fully charged Chromebook to school each day. Your Chromebook will be utilized in every period and if you bring it fully charged, you'll have no problem making it through the day.
