Principal's Message

Welcome to Garden Grove High School, a high school rich in nearly 100 years of academic co-curricular, and extra-curricular success for everyone! We offer many opportunities to personalize your education to better prepare you for future education and career decision-making. In addition to an outstanding core of comprehensive courses in English, Mathematics, Social Science, World Language, Physical Education and Science we also offer a rich and varied set of electives tailored to meet the needs of every learner. We offer visual arts performing arts, and career/technical electives. We also offer Honors courses and 17 AP courses, the highest in Garden Grove Unified School District. Our AVID program serves approximately 90 students per grade level. We also offer Latin, Vietnamese American History, Mexican American History, and Mexican American Literature courses.

The staff members at GGHS are among the most talented and dedicated educators anywhere in this country. We are committed to innovative educational approaches to foster a teaching and learning community where instruction is student-centered, project based, and connected to real world experiences. Argo teachers use a wide variety of instructional strategies to fully engage all students, and their lessons are both creative and rigorous.  Teachers draw students into complex discussions that require critical thinking, analysis, synthesis, and connections to prior learning.

As students advance through GGHS, please keep in mind that high school is about much more than earning a diploma. This is the time to learn about your maturing talents, to pursue your dreams, to explore careers, and to discover who you are and what you want to become. Select a challenging course of study to ensure that colleges and future employers are made aware of your strong work ethic, desire to learn, and ambition to be the best you can be.

We continue to receive positive feedback from parents who are using the Parent Portal to keep up on their child’s progress and attendance.  It’s a valuable tool for monitoring current grades, attendance and graduation status.  If students and parents log-on and check once a day, students can increase academic grades by at least 25%, and improve attendance significantly.  Attendance matters!  If attendance or tardiness has been an issue in your household in the past, please make a commitment to change that today —come to school every day, on time every period!

In order to further enhance your learning experiences at GGHS, we invite everyone to participate in one of the many co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities on campus. There are currently 54 clubs from which to choose including athletic clubs, academic clubs, and service clubs!!! Our goal is to provide all GGHS students with the opportunity to excel in academics, physical fitness, technology, and the arts so that everyone can fulfill of their dreams for the future!

I look forward to working with all of our families this school year in order to assist all students in fulfilling their dreams for the future.

Have a fantastic year!

Steve Osborne, Principal
