GGHS Mid-Summer Update

GGHS Mid-Summer Update

 Good morning Argos Community,

In the next couple weeks you will be receiving a post card from the school which has detailed information about in-person registration taking place at GGHS during the week of Aug 8-12. Seniors will register on Aug 8, Juniors on Aug 9, Sophomores on Aug 10, and Freshmen on Aug 11. The post card will be mailed out in the next week or two and students will need to bring the post card on the day they come to register.

Towards the end of last year you were reminded by our school district that California legislators passed a law in 2019 which requires that high schools start no earlier than 8:30a.m., and that law takes effect this year. As such, our daily schedule will be pushed forward by 30 minutes. The start time for 1st period will be 8:30a.m. and the end of 6th period will be 3:13p.m. You can view the bell schedule on our website at https://www.gghs.us/apps/bell_schedules/. We are still allowed to have Zero Period and those will start at 7:30 but please note that we are not adding extra Zero Periods as those are implemented in order to accommodate students who need 7 classes.

We understand that the change of start time may pose some logistical problems for families as they manage their morning schedule. To help with that and to help our students, we plan to have a variety of school programs open in the morning including tutoring in multiple subject areas as well an open library. I will be in communication with you as to the offerings and the start times.

I am excited to mention that as you drive by GGHS on 7th Street, you will soon see a collection of heavy equipment as we begin construction of a new 24-classroom, 2-story building which will replace the portables on the northeast side of campus. Construction will continue throughout the year and it is projected that we will transition from the portables and into this new building to open up the 2023-24 school year.

That’s a quick look at a few important items, I will give you more updates as we get closer to the start of the year but, for now, just look for the registration post card by the end of the month and we will see you all very soon!

Enjoy the rest of summer,
