Principal's Message

Hello GGHS community,

It’s been a year unlike any other but we’ve turned the corner into the second semester of the 2020-21 school year and signs are beginning to show that we’re moving towards getting our school life back to normal. We’re hopeful Orange County will soon move into the red tier of the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy which would allow us to open in a hybrid model shortly thereafter. It is likely we would be in that modified schedule for the rest of the year and as the spring and summer progresses, we are going to be most interested in taking those steps which will allow us a normal school environment next fall. Of course, most of the key factors towards that are out of our control, but we will do our part in trying to make that happen.

We have an amazing staff and faculty at Garden Grove High School and never has there been a time where their flexibility and resiliency has been needed more than in the past year. Even in distance learning, they have worked very hard to create a supportive environment that promotes curiosity, learning, and personal growth. They bring professionalism and compassion to their jobs so that each student can comfortably explore his or her unique talents and abilities. At least one Wednesday each month our teachers collaborate by department where they engage in professional conversations, share best practices, and analyze evidence of student learning in order to best serve the needs of our students so that all students will be prepared to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

As we stand on the precipice of returning in-person, rest assured that your student will be presented with a wide variety of opportunities and experiences while at GGHS. They will be presented with rigorous and relevant curriculum each class period and have access to take part in a comprehensive athletic program, exceptional visual and performing arts program, a robust activities program, and a variety of engaging college and career pathways in a supportive environment. We hope all of our students find a sport, club, activity, or program that they can enjoy.

Parental involvement is a vital component in increasing student achievement and our staff invites all parents and family members to be involved participants in our learning community. There are many opportunities for you to take an active role including Site Council, ELAC, DELAC, Alumni Association, Parent Education classes, etc. We look forward to working collaboratively with you with the goal always to make our school even better for our students. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns at any time.

Established in 1921, GGHS is a school rich in tradition and as we approach our 100 year anniversary in the fall of 2021, we will be celebrating and honoring these great traditions that all past Argonauts have created. And we will all play a role in building our own traditions in the years to come.

Brighter times are in the immediate forecast and I look forward to continuing this journey of learning together!
